Traditional Diets vs Modern Diets, Which One to Follow?

According to a study led by the scientists at Tufts University School of Nutrition in Boston, nearly 50% of all deaths are from diabetes, strokes and heart disease that were associated with a poor diet.

This means diet plays an important role in our lives. There are basically two types of diets – Modern diet and traditional diet. Some prefer traditional over modern and the other vice versa. What is Traditional Diet?

A traditional diet is a way towards healthy eating. It doesn’t involve processed foods that are stripped of flavor, nutrients, and calories. Such a diet involves organic ingredients derived from nature. It includes seasonal and regional produced foods, which are healthy to eat and contains higher in nutrients, vitamins, minerals probiotics and other valuable nutrients.

Several studies have demonstrated the health benefits of traditional diets. One of the well known traditional eating patterns is the Mediterranean diet. This diet includes the basics of healthy eating with a splash of olive oil and a glass of red wine. It includes eating plant-based foods like vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes and whole grains. Other than this, the other traditional diets include the African Heritage Diet, Latin American Diet, Asian Diet, Vegetarian and Vegan Diet.

What is Modern diet?

Did you know more than 1-3rd of all adults in the U.S are obese? Obesity increases the risk of several health conditions like stroke, diabetes, heart disease or some sort of cancer. It is also one of the reasons for the unnatural deaths in the country. Sadly, the modern diet is responsible for it to a large extent. It is responsible for people getting sicker and fatter than ever before. The major foods that come under modern foods are Cold Drinks, patis, Pizza, Chaumeans, fish, burgers and other junk food.

These foods are highly responsible for diseases like type 2 diabetes, obesity and heart disease. The main reasons are modern diet includes highly processed foods, high sugar, vegetable oil and refined flour. Also, these are not washed properly and are made on gas flame, which is harmful to health.

From the above illustration, it is clear that both of these diets are different in their own ways. The modern diet is unhealthy whereas traditional diet is healthy. Traditional diet means no outside food is involved, but only fresh, home-made food. Whereas modern foods involve all outside food which is not good for health.
